Aged Parent Visa

Subclass 804

This visa allows an aged parent of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who has settled in Australia to move to Australia.

General Eligibility Requirements:

1. You are the parent of a settled Australian Citizen or PR and is sponsored.

Your application must be sponsored by one of the children who is a settled Australian citizen or PR.. If child is under 18, application can be sponsored by an eligible relative or community organisation. Sponsorship must be approved by the department.

2. You are old enough to receive age pension in Australia.

Currently, age pension in Australia ranges between 65-67 years.

3.  You must meet the balance of family test.

If a parent have at least half of the parent's children and step-children are living in Australia as Australian citizen or permanent resident , parent meets the balance of family test. Or

If parent have more children are living in Australia as Australian citizen or permanent resident than other children living in any other single country, parent passes the balance of family test.

4You must be able to obtain assurance of support.

An acceptable Assurance of support must be provided, including the lodgement of a monetary bond, in order for the visa to be granted. This monetary bond is $5,000 for the primary visa applicant and $2,000 for any adult secondary visa applicant, for period of 2 or 4 years, for purpose of this visa.

5. Applicant must be able to meet health and character requirements.

You must undergo health assessment whenever asked. Health waivers are not available for this subclass. With regards to character requirements, you must be able to pass the character test.

If you meet the requirements mentioned above, you may be eligible for the Subclass 804 aged parent visa.

Please note that the current processing time for new subclass aged 804 parent visa application is approximately 29 years.

Applicants may be eligible for bridging visas. If you’re interested in parent visas with shorter processing times, you can always look for alternative visa options such as contributory parent visas (Subclass 143/173).
